Tecno – The History.

In 1962 the brothers Luciano and Gianfranco Pederzani set up the company Tecno Cart as a subsidiary of a company which manufactured hydraulic pumps.
The Tecno Carts soon began to win many national championships as well as European and World Championships.
In 1965 the Pederzani brothers introduced a small Formula 4 ,the K 250 with its 250cc engine.
A year later the first TECNO Formula 3 was introduced. In its first race at Mugello it finished third. In the following years the cars were very successful winning several championships at national and international level such as the italien.french and Swedish championships.
The cars were looked upon as small, sturdy and tough and good to control like their predecessor the go karts.
Overall the first Formula 3 from 1966 was an revamped K250 with a 1 litre motor and outboard suspension. The drivers lying position combined  with the short wheelbase made a compact appearance. With this car the brothers achieved the step up to Formual 3 so that in 1967 they could follow up with a much improved car.
This was of course a car with a tubular chassis, short wheelbase and an unchanged suspension.
Front and rear double A arms with trailing arms at the rear. The aerodynamics were not so bad and the car was able to match others on the  straights and had a very good balance in the corners.
The development of the works cars continued throughout the year and at the end Regazzoni was able to to win the first international race in Spain. Success came suddenly and in 1968 Tecno sold many cars. The motor,Cosworth MAE was revised in work and race wins were captured by drivers such as Cevert,Peterson,Jaussaud,Wissel and Mohr.
Techno won 32 of 65 international races. In 1969 Techno dominated in similar style and through just detail modifications more success was gained.
The biggest success of all was down to Ronnie Peterson who,in a Tecno with Nova engine, won 14 races amongst them the all important F3 race in Macao.

F3 NOVA engine.
In order to keep costs down the rules in the Formuala 3,layed down from 1964 to 1970,the engine had a maximum capacity of 1 litre and had a simple carburettor. The air intake in the carburettor was restricted using a 36 mm plate. The block and cylinder had had to come from a series production engine. A four speed gearbox was stipulated , whereas Formula Junior was using a five speed. The weight was 420 kg.
To start off a few teams used BMC or Renault engines, but soon Ford became the only supplier after Cosworth introduced in 1965 its new engine based on the Ford 105E,a modified Anglia Series E.
Charles Lucas was the first to have the idea of fitting the Cosworth engine “in line” into the chassis. The intake port was closed by welding and four new intake channels were drilled vertically into the head and four pipes were then pressed in place. The carburettor now sat directly above the engine.Through improvements to the crankshaft and valve train it was now possible to rev over 10,000 rpm. The high revs lead to the characteristic scream of the Ford MAE engines. Because of the limited rev band it is not easy to drive quickly. A brave right foot is needed to keep the engine at its revs.
In 1969 the Italian tuners Pedrazzani managed to increase the power of the engine to just over 100 hp,which  was an advantage which the English tuners,Holbay,Lucas and Felday were not able to match ,even up until the end of the 1 litre F3 in 1970.
